Often you will find two players who are being drafted typically right around the same area and have similar price tags in auctions. Maybe both will bring back close to equal value in returns. Aaron Harang or John Smoltz?

i’ll have to go with the more reliable smoltzie on this one. i don’t have a lot of reasoning behind that decision. just a personal preference is all.
Um, Harang. Is this a trick question?
Tyler Durden – Why do you say that? You think Harang is that obvious of a pick? I might go with him too, but it’s def. a close call. Sure, Smoltz is much older, but Harang has been among the league-leaders in pitches thrown for three years now. Smoltz limits HRs a lot more effectively. Both a big help in Ks and WHIP.
I’d take Harang over Smoltz every day of the week. Then, maybe if Smoltz was there 2 rounds later, I might consider him, although that might be too early.
I just got Smoltz with the 101st pick in my draft. I wasn’t even thinking about drafting him, as it’s a dynasty league, but he seemed way too good to pass up there. The Braves offense should be solid, he still gets K’s, and WHIP/ERA is always solid. I always kind of think of Harang as overrated, but his stats always surprise me; 218 K’s with a 1.14 WHIP last year is legit…but I don’t see it happening again (maybe that’s just the A’s fan in me talking though). Smoltz’s K/9 was actually slightly better than Harang’s last year, and I think his WHIP and ERA are more sustainable.
When do we get to hear about ‘Zona?

163 K’s with a 1.26 WHIP in ’05
Sounds like progression to me. I love Harang because he still flies under the radar, being underrated by owners such as yourselves.
I love this game.
His BABIP also dropped 27 points, so I’m not sure I’d consider it progression. If he keeps his K/9 above 8 and pitches 200+ innings, he’ll still be plenty valuable though.
…and Smoltz had the highest BABIP of his career last year and still had a WHIP of 1.18.
